The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme or CHAS, Constructionline and Safety Management Assessment Scheme or SMAS are established market leaders for health and safety pre-qualification in the UK and recognised marks of competence for any construction related contractor or consultant.

CHAS / Constructionline and SMAS are pre-approval schemes and part of Safety Scheme in Procurement (SSIP). These are used by public sector and private construction contractors. Some large construction contractors and house builders now impose a mandatory requirement that all their sub-contractors must be CHAS / Constructionline or SMAS accredited.

The CHAS / Constructionline or SMAS registration or accreditation aims to prove that contractor or consultant maintains minimum acceptable health and safety and environmental standards.
